On the Cusp of Everything

My Grandmother was very much into astrology — still don’t get it, honestly, somebody endearing, please come and school me on it all.

But, I know enough about the ideas to recognize the word Cusp: as being the transition period between two astrological signs or states of being.

So, Grams and I were talking in her kitchen as we often did, in Sea Isle City, New Jersey where she lived, a shore town, three blocks from the beach — -I wasn’t more than 15 years old and, she said:

‘Jason, you were born on the cusp of everything.’

She was referring to how fast everything in our country, our world, society at-large, was changing, and how fast— because of technology and media and consumerism and who knows what else her and I didn’t know about. (it should be noted for context that Marian Tucker was a pre-teen during the Great Depression and I was a smart-ass preteen in the Clinton 90’s)

Maybe things have accelerated since that day or since the day Gram passed, or since yesterday, but sitting here today, right now, I understand what she meant and I carry it with me always.
